Jimmy's STORY

Jimmy was rescued from Katrina after Aaron’s brother heard about animals that needed adopted. They weren’t sure what kind of dog he was – a mix of several breeds, no doubt, but Jimmy was the most sweet, happy, fun-loving dog Aaron could have asked for. Jimmy loved to sit out on the patio (they lived on the 2nd floor) all day watching other dogs walk by and just lay in the sun. He never barked; he just really seemed to enjoy his new life in Colorado.

During the winter he loved to play in the snow with the other dogs from the neighborhood. In the spring Jimmy enjoyed hikes and playing in the nearby lake with the neighborhood dogs. One day, while I was out walking with Jimmy and his dad, Aaron, we suddenly turned around to see Jimmy with his two back legs up on a hay barrel. There he was: his front legs on the ground and his hind legs up two to three feet on the hay. He decided this is where he needed to go to the bathroom! We stood there laughing at Jimmy as he went potty on the hay. This is just one example of the many silly, endearing things that Jimmy did.

A little over a year after they adopted him, Jimmy got very sick with an animal version of Crohn’s disease. Aaron did everything he could do to keep him alive as long as possible. However, a month after the diagnosis Jimmy was too weak and frail to continue. Unfortunately, he was put down; and Jimmy’s dad, Aaron, is still coping with the loss.
